Volunteering

Firs Farm is looked after by volunteers for the good of the community.  Our trustees, committee and event team donate their time for free. However, our work would not be possible without support from residents, community groups (such as Thames 21 and The Enfield Society), and corporate volunteers.

Collectively, our dedicated volunteers have planted over two thousand trees, shrubs, bulbs, and various other plants. We’ve also established new wildlife habitats, including bug and bee hotels, a stumpery, and pond islands for nesting, all aimed at supporting our wildlife.

Conservation volunteering

On Monday & Saturday mornings our dedicated weekly teams undertake the routine ‘gardening’ conservation tasks as cutting back overgrown vegetation, litter-picking, mulching and weeding. Our volunteering superstar Elaine is out there in all weathers!

During the summer months extra help may be needed to water the newly planted trees.

Tree planting days

Tree planting is done during the dormant winter months, Community tree planting days are announced via our What’s On Page, newsletter and social media. Many residents have ‘adopted’ a tree and come back to see how it is growing.

Corporate Volunteering

Firs Farm is a popular for corporate volunteering, especially since the Hub opened, with cafe, toilets, and meeting space.

Firs Farm provides an opportunity for your staff to lend their skills and time; spending time together in the open air; away from the workplace.

We arrange meaningful actitivies, which are planned with your team leader, prior to your visit, Your volunteers are given a comprehensive health and safety briefing at the start of the session and we provide all the necessary tools and equipment (except gloves).

Thank you to the team from Aviva, for their hard work in clearing weeds and planting whips around the tennis courts. Our first corporate volunteering day (February 2024) since the Hub opened.
